Course: The Pre-Raphaelites


The course is intended for anyone with an interest in art, art history, or
Victorian history and culture in general, as well as for those with a
particular interest in the Pre-Raphaelite movement. No prior experience or
knowledge is required Among the topics the course will cover are:
The origins of Pre-Raphaelitism |
Context: the Victorian art world |
Pre-Raphaelite ideas and writings |
The development of Pre-Raphaelite art |
Pre-Raphaelite themes, motifs and styles |
The Pre-Raphaelite legacy |
If you take this course, you will need to be prepared to read, to look, to
discuss, and to listen. You will be expected to collaborate with your fellow
students, putting together ideas and insights and communicating them to others,
and to prepare written assignments and a presentation which you will give
before the class.
The course will be held at Fishergate Primary School, Fishergate, York, on ten
Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm, beginning 25 April 2006.
