Course: Introducing Heraldry

Decorative heraldic illustration

This course is intended for anyone with an interest in history, medieval history, art history, or just in heraldry for its own sake. No prior experience or knowledge is required. Among the topics the course will cover are:

Graphic: round bullet pointHeraldry in the world
Graphic: round bullet pointMeaning and identity in heraldry
Graphic: round bullet pointThe art of heraldry and heraldic decoration
Graphic: round bullet pointHeraldry in the contemporary world

If you take this course, you will need to be prepared to read, to look, to discuss, and to listen. You will be expected to collaborate with your fellow students, putting together ideas and insights and communicating them to others, and to prepare written assignments and a presentation which you will give before the class.

The course will be held at Fishergate Primary School, Fishergate, York, on ten Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm, beginning 27 September 2005.
