Course: Introducing
Heraldry


This course is intended for anyone with an interest in history, medieval
history, art history, or just in heraldry for its own sake. No prior experience
or knowledge is required. Among the topics the course will cover are:
The origins of heraldry |
The development of heraldry in the British
Isles |
Heraldry in the world |
Meaning and identity in heraldry |
The art of heraldry and heraldic
decoration |
Heraldry in the contemporary world |
If you take this course, you will need to be prepared to read, to look, to
discuss, and to listen. You will be expected to collaborate with your fellow
students, putting together ideas and insights and communicating them to others,
and to prepare written assignments and a presentation which you will give
before the class.
The course will be held at Fishergate Primary School, Fishergate, York, on ten
Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm, beginning 27 September 2005.
